We popped in to the visitor center yesterday to pick up a bus map and then proceeded to pick the brains of a friendly tourism professional, Robert, who patiently explained how to get to Wollaton Hall by bus, gave his suggestions for a "cake walk" when I asked about bakeries, and suggested a drive to Sherwood Forest as well as places to hike outside of the shire. In exchange we invited him to the upcoming concert at Albert Hall.
Carol and I did not let the morning rain deter us from our bus adventure to Wollaton Hall and we walked the wet paths for a short tour of the grounds, gardens and gables. The Hall is an Elizabethan mansion (1500s) once home to the Middletons (that's a fun fact for you, Kristin). It is one of the locations in the new Batman movie. It's also a deer park but the deer must have been hiding from cameras today. Thanks for the directions, Robert!
