Marjan and Mestrovic
To work off that brunch and escape the crowds within the palace walls, we hiked up a staircase to Marjan Forest Park, a wooded peninsula with a drone's eye view of Split. (They missed the opportunity to name it Golden Gate Park!) Rain and thunder drove us down and both were so intense that we took refuge in the archeological museum. When that museum closed before the rain stopped, we made our way to the Mestrovic Sculpture Gallery, located in Ivan Mestrovic's villa. Mestrovic was a contemporary of Rodin and is Croatia's most famous artist, though he spent a lot of his life in South Bend, Indiana. (Kathy, the sculptures in the garden made me think of the Garden of the Greek Gods and I'm guessing EB Cox would have been familiar with Mestrovic.)

What a beautiful view! Rain adds another dimension, even if it's inconvenient. Interesting bronzes!
