Storming the castle
Ghent's Gravensteen "Castle of the Counts" built by Count Philip in 1180, in the style of castles he saw in the Second Crusade, ended up being too cold and dark for him to want to actually live in. Several other counts gave it a go but turned it over for use as a prison and cotton mill instead. The only time it was stormed was in 1949 when students protesting the city's rise in beer prices took control of the castle until the city agreed to compromise with a lesser price increase. The students still celebrate that day every year at the castle gate......with beer.
