Slovenia's slice of the Adriatic

Slovenia somehow ended up with only 29 miles of Adriatic coastline while Croatia nabbed 3600 miles. Arlo zeroed in on Piran as a destination for a last fling on the coast before heading inland to the Alps. Our Airbnb room with a view was up three floors of rickety stairs and from there we could see and hear the lapping of the sea and the chatter of the cafe crowd below. An afternoon stroll was cut short by a thunderstorm that drenched us in 10 seconds. The water poured onto the narrow, medieval streets from drainpipes and down the stone paths like a raging river. Glad I was still wearing my sandals. After pasta and fish (there are delicious advantages to being so close to Italy) we hiked up to the town wall for a sunset view. Staying overnight inside the town after most of the tourists had left and where the streets are too narrow for cars (but safe for cats) made this one of our favorite stops.

  2. Oh man, I'm not sure I can go on reading. This is too beautiful, and so uncrowded. I may go to Slovenia before I go to Italy!
