While Lebkuchen may be my golden angel, Nüremberg's official Christmas ambassador is the Rauschgoldengel that welcomes visitors. Some say that 350 years ago a Nüremberg craftsman's daughter died and she returned to him in a dream with golden wings and hood. He hammered out a thin, highly polished brass sheet to create an angel in her likeness. When I asked today's craftsman why the angel has no arms or feet, thinking there must be an enchanting story, he explained that they were too hard to make.
