After the summer crowds of the Tower of London, we began our second day in London on a tranquil narrowboat ride along the canals of "Little Venice" past the London Zoo to the Camden locks.
Before motors, the boats hauling cargo were pulled with ropes by horses or people who used the "tow paths" to walk along the side of the canals. Fortunately we had a motor. Narrowboats are no more than 7 feet wide and as long as 70 feet. To turn the boats they had to find a wide spot and some wind, hence the term "wind-ing."
