Getting high

Feeling better after our day of rest, we set off to an even higher hut (Rifugio Passo Principe) for a cappuccino. I'm still in awe that I can have a cappuccino served in a cup on a mountain pass so remote that everything has to be hauled up by handtruck. (Cost 2.50.) I was sorry that I wasn't yet hungry for hazelnut cake or apple strudel to complement my cappuccino. When I made the comment that it was too early, another hiker said, "It's never too early for cake." I found my soulmate. Further up we climbed to cross Antermoa pass and then make a steep ski run down a snowfield to a moonscape valley.

  1. I'm missing the meadow views and the cowbells. Are you?
